About the group:
  • The ideal group size is 5-15 members, depending on your meeting space.
  • For location, you could meet in a restaurant that matches the theme or setting of your book; you could meet in a living room or library, coffee shop, community center, or book shop.  Alternatively, you could have a meeting over the Internet.
  • You could share costs by having a potluck.
  • Give everyone enough time to locate the book and read the book before your meeting.
  • Choose a meeting time to accommodate as many of your members as possible.
  • Try to start the meetings on time and keep to the decided time frame (e.g., 1 to 2 hours).
  • Encourage all members to come prepared, whether it is with notes for discussion or simply to have read the book.

Tips for taking part in a book discussion:
  • Remind all members of the importance of keeping on topic during discussions .
  • All personal discussions and social small talk should be kept to the periods before and after the literary discussion.
Tips for facilitating a book discussion:
  1. Having an assigned leader can make all the difference to a successful meeting. It helps to keep discussions focused and on track, and prevents awkward starting silences when no one is willing to kick off the conversation.
  2. While it is a good idea to have reading guides and prepared questions for discussion, it is also important to let the discussion “flow” and be spontaneous. If conversation is lively and members are participating enthusiastically, no need to rush on to the next topic or make sure that you have checked off all discussion points on your list!
  3. You may wish to use an “icebreaker” activity to loosen up your group and get your discussion off to an enthusiastic start. Each person might have about 2 minutes to answer a chosen question and have someone call the time. Here’s a few suggestions: What character did you identify with (or would like to be) and why? What was your favorite location mentioned in the book?  Have you been there?  Would you like to go there and why?
  4. If your participants don’t know each other, possibly you would want to have something more personal, such as what are their hobbies; or what are 3 of their favorite books, name a gift they will never forget, what’s the hardest thing they have ever done, what’s the first thing they think of when they think about God.
  5. You may have one or two props related to the story, such as maps, photos, or food. This can help stimulate the members' thinking about some aspect of the story.
  6. Choose one question at a time and toss it out to the group. Encourage as many who wish to share to participate.
  7. Select a number of questions, write each on an index card, and distribute. Each member (or a team of 2-3) takes a card and answers the question.
  8. Pick out a specific passage from the book description, an idea, a line of dialogue — and ask members to comment. For instance, “How does the passage reflect a character or the work's central meaning?”
  9. Choose a primary character and ask members to comment on him or her. Consider things like: Character traits, motivations, how he/she affects the story's events and characters.
  10. You may wish to distribute handouts that summarize the plot and the main characters to everyone.

Inviting Christ for Christmas

The Ascension! book says many things, but one thing is frequently brought to the surface. That Christ and other great Masters of Consciousness were teaching something vastly different than most traditional religions will have you believe. So what was Christ teaching?

What exactly is enlightenment? Everyone has been talking about it for years, but what is it? Is it different from the Salvation of the Christian tradition? Is it the same for Buddhists, Hindus, Taoists, Sufis, Muslims, Christians, agnostics, atheists? What exactly is the Voice for God? Can anyone experience it? Can there be modern prophets and sages, or were they an historical phenomenon only, never found in the modern world? Or did they ever exist at all? Was their supposed existence only historical aggrandizement? Are miracles real, or are they fantasy merely?
Do these questions deeply move you? If they seem impractical to you, of little relevance to your life and your world, they probably don’t interest you much. If this is so for you, what does fascinate you? What interests a modern human being? Are we all content with the quality of our lives? Do we, any of us, care what is the possible range of human experience? Or are we too interested in our financial and social standing to care about anything else? What if expansion of consciousness resulted in greater success in every area of our concern? And what if it were truly possible to do anything we desired, anything at all? Would we be interested then?
For some of us, it may be that we were once interested, but then we stumbled across a teacher or a teaching or a minister or a church or a science and are now completely content with receiving answers from others, and rarely or never seek for our own inner truth. Or it may be that we despaired of ever finding answers and abandoned our quest.
Another way to find no answer is to try a little of everything available and deeply experience nothing. We occasionally have such people come and learn some of the Ishaya Techniques. These have a habit of trying everything they find, thrashing about wildly, seeking everywhere for truth, finding it nowhere. This grab-bag approach to enlightenment is never successful. Only by diving deep into one’s own heart can progress ever be made. Only by seeking within are answers ever found. Adopting someone else’s belief system is no answer. Blindly following yet one more teacher or teaching is ultimately pointless. The True Teacher will always point the finger of understanding back at the heart of the seeker. There only is progress possible. The True Teacher always seeks independence in his/her followers, never slavish devotion. Growth comes from the inside out. Always. Always.
Within each of us lies a treasure house of undiscovered wealth. Beauty greater than human eyes have ever beheld is hidden inside our hearts; wisdom greater than human minds have ever known is cached within the secret jeweled chamber within our breasts. Safety, security, freedom from fear of every kind lie there, as do fulfillment of every desire, calmness from every storm, a loving hand to dry every tear, a peaceful balm to soothe every hurt.
What can be done to liberate our hidden genius? Even modern psychology has declared that the average person uses a frighteningly small percentage of the mental potential available -- 66 Enlightenment most agree that only 5% to 10% of our human capacity is employed by the average adult. What a tragic waste of life that so much of our inner mind is never used, lies forever untapped, unappreciated, unknown!
Lying inside each of us is a magnificent reservoir of creativity and brilliance. It is not difficult to learn how to tap this inner repository. What stands in the way is just habit. It is habit that restricts the use of our minds; it is habit that keeps us believing in a limited life of ups and downs, of pleasure and pain, of success and failure. Any habit can be broken or retrained. If it is our beliefs that keep the mind chained to a tiny fraction of its full potential, these beliefs can be changed.

was born April 13, 1949 in Seattle, Washington.  After setting out in search of Truth, it was in the Himalayas that he found the ancient order of monks known as the Ishayas.  From them he learned the techniques collectively known as The Art of Ascension as taught by the Ishayas.

MSI eloquently writes about the Science the Practice and the Teaching of Ascension.

He desired that no attention be placed on  the “Author” but rather the focus be on the “Teaching.”
